On The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we honor the incredible contributions of women and girls in science, celebrating their achievements, resilience, and groundbreaking discoveries. From laboratories to the field, from physics to medicine, women have played a crucial role in shaping our world through science, yet their contributions have often been overlooked.

Throughout history, the Egyptian Women contributed in the science achievements as Merit Ptah, the first known female doctor, served as Chief Physician in ancient Egypt. In Modern era, pioneers like Marie Curie and Rosalind Franklin have defied barriers, making discoveries that changed the course of humanity. Marie Curie, a two-time Nobel Prize winner, revolutionized physics and chemistry with her discoveries of radioactivity, paving the way for advancements in medical treatments and nuclear energy. Rosalind Franklin’s groundbreaking work in X-ray crystallography was key to uncovering the double-helix structure of DNA, a discovery that transformed genetics and modern medicine. Arab history also holds remarkable female scientists. In this day, the world mustn’t forget Dr. Sameera Moussa, known as the Marie Curie of the East, was the first Egyptian nuclear scientist and the first Arab woman to earn a PhD in radiation physics. She believed in “nuclear energy for peace” and worked to make nuclear technology accessible for medical use.

Today, we celebrate their legacies, which continue to inspire young girls and women to pursue their curiosity, challenge stereotypes, and make their mark in STEM fields.

نكرم اليوم المساهمات الرائعة للنساء في مجال العلوم في اليوم العالمي للمرأة والفتاة في مجال العلوم ، ونحتفل بإنجازاتهن وقدرتهن على الصمود واكتشافاتهن الرائدة. لعبت النساء دورًا حاسمًا في تشكيل عالمنا من خلال العلم في الفيزياء، بالرغم من تجاهل البعض لمساهماتهن.

منذ قديم الأزل قدم التاريخ المصري اسهامات في عالم العلوم حيث كانت ميريت بتاح، أول طبيبة، بل وعملت كرئيسة للأطباء في مصر الفرعونية. كما في العصر الحديث تحدت رائدات مثل ماري كوري وروزاليند فرانكلين الحواجز، وقامن باكتشافات غيرت مسار البشرية. أحدثت ماري كوري، الحائزة على جائزة نوبل مرتين، ثورة في الفيزياء والكيمياء باكتشافاتها للنشاط الإشعاعي، مما مهد الطريق للتقدم في العلاجات الطبية والطاقة النووية. وكان عمل روزاليند فرانكلين الرائد في علم البلورات بالأشعة السينية مفتاحًا لاكتشاف بنية الحلزون المزدوج للحمض النووي، وهو الاكتشاف الذي غير علم الوراثة والطب الحديث. ولا يجب أن ننسى الدكتورة سميرة موسى، أول عالمة نووية في مصر استهدفت أن تجعل الطب النووي متاحًا للجميع وبأسعار معقولة. لا يزال إرث تلك النساء يلهم الفتيات والنساء في كل مكان حتى اليوم لتنمية شغفهم وتحدي نظرة المجتمع النمطية وترك بصماتهن في مجالات العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات.
