Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a day to recognize the prevalence of violence against women and girls around the world and to take action to end it. Violence against women and girls is a global pandemic that affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime. It takes many forms, including physical, psychological, and economic abuse. It is a violation of human rights and a major obstacle to achieving gender equality.

يحتفل العالم باليوم العالمي للقضاء على العنف ضد المرأة في الخامس والعشرين من نوفمبر كل عام للفت النظر عن انتشار العنف ضد النساء والفتيات في جميع أنحاء العالم واتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة لوضع حد له. يعد العنف ضد النساء والفتيات أزمة عالمية تؤثر على العديد من النساء. ويتخذ هذا العنف أشكالا عديدة، على سبيل المثال لا الحصر، الاعتداء الجسدي والنفسي والاقتصادي. ويعتبر انتهاك لحقوق الإنسان وعقبة كبيرة أمام تحقيق المساواة بين الجنسين.
